Career Expos - Upington - Northern Vape
On 19 October ATNS launched a career awareness campaign with a difference at the Upington International Airport as part of October Transport Month 2015. This event was conceived and hosted by the Northern Cape Provincial Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison, with the National Department of Transport in a supportive and co-facilitation role to give the event a national profile.
To open up the doors of learning and opportunities for female learners and to lay a foundation for the creation of an equal South African society, ATNS focused on female students at this particular career drive. There was also a focus on the existing transport sector as well as the possibilities for females in this industry.
Five hundred learners from over 17 schools from the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, and 20 young matriculants from Balelapa Household Project in Upington, are earmarked to benefit from this event. The 500 learners mentioned above represent six local municipal areas: Groblershoop, Kakamas, Keimoes, Kenhardt, Postmasburg and Upington.
The Department of Basic Education as a custodian of schools and the school community gave its approval to the event and participated in the preparations and execution.
The Airforce Base Bloemspruit, under the Department of Defence, put on an air show to motivate learners in the area of aviation.
ATNS was well-represented and visible at the event. A big thank you to Charl and the ATNS team for manning ATNS’s Career/Info Stand and sharing their knowledge with those in attendance, especially the learners.
