Mr. Mbongeni Maqashelana’s has experience within the logistics industry that covers rail and aviation. He started his career at Spoornet (now Transnet Freight Rail) in the Train Operational Environment as a Train Assistant and then Train Driver. The other roles he occupied at Transnet Freight Rail include Professional Officer, Management accountant, Business Risk Manager (Risk and Corporate Governance), and Senior Manager: Enterprise Risk responsible for risk management, Business Continuity, Environmental Management, Quality, Insurance, Fire and Hazmat . He joined ATNS in 2014 as Senior Manager responsible for Risk, Security, and Quality and was promoted to the role of Chief Risk Executive in 2017. In 2022 he was, over and above his role as Chief Risk Executive, appointed in an acting capacity as Executive: Strategy and Optimisation, the role in which he led the coordination of ATNS strategy, business processes, and corporate planning and reporting. From March 2023 to date, he was appointed in an acting capacity as Chief Operating Officer responsible for Air Traffic Services, Operation Technology, and Information Technology. He will continue to act in this role until the appointment of the Chief Operating Officer.
Mbongeni holds a Master of Business Administration Degree (University of Stellenbosch), Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration (University of Stellenbosch), a BCompt Degree (UNISA), National Diploma: Cost and Management Accounting (Walter Sisulu University of Technology). Certificate in Programme in Risk Management (UNISA), He is also an Associate member of the Institute of Risk Management (IRMSA), A Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM™) with the International Academy of Business and Financial Management) (IABFM) . He has also completed several certificate programs, e.g., Project Management (University of Stellenbosch), Business continuity management (Continuity SA); Occupational Health and Safety Training, and Lead Auditor ISO 9001 at Quality Strategem International (QSi).
